Toronto enters Wednesday’s matchup after losing several key players, including Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow, who have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Seattle is also dealing with injury concerns and will look to stop a three-game losing streak without guard Natisha Hiedeman.

Tempo Continue Difficult Road Trip

Toronto is currently in the middle of a challenging six-game road trip. The team recently played two games at a neutral location in Vancouver as part of efforts to bring WNBA basketball to more fans across Western Canada.

After splitting those games, Toronto returned to the United States for the final portion of the trip, beginning with a matchup against Seattle.

The Tempo entered the game with an 11-26 record. They ended a 12-game losing streak with an 82-79 victory over Portland in Vancouver before falling 88-78 against the Las Vegas Aces.

Injuries Leave Toronto Short-Handed

Toronto’s biggest challenge has been maintaining a competitive lineup while dealing with multiple injuries.

Several important players were unavailable in the loss to Las Vegas, including:

Marina Mabrey (adductor injury)
Brittney Sykes (left foot injury)
Nyara Sabally (left calf injury)
Maria Conde (left calf injury)
Aneesah Morrow (left knee injury)

Sykes and Morrow have been ruled out for the rest of the season, while Mabrey remains sidelined as the team evaluates her recovery.

Mabrey has been one of Toronto’s most important offensive players this season, averaging 20.8 points per game.

With only eight healthy players available against Las Vegas, Toronto relied heavily on Kia Nurse, who led the team with 19 points.

Seattle Storm Looking to Recover From Recent Struggles

Seattle enters the matchup searching for consistency after another difficult stretch.

The Storm have lost three straight games following earlier losing streaks during the season. Their latest defeat came against the Dallas Wings, where Seattle struggled in a 92-70 loss.

Despite the result, rookie Flau’jae Johnson provided a bright spot, scoring 23 points and making five three-pointers.

Johnson emphasized that Seattle needs to improve beyond simply competing, saying the team must find a way to deliver complete performances on both ends of the court.

Storm Also Missing Key Guard Natisha Hiedeman

Seattle will continue playing without guard Natisha Hiedeman, who remains unavailable because of a shoulder injury.

Hiedeman has been an important contributor this season, averaging 15.4 points and a team-high 4.8 assists per game.

Without her presence in the backcourt, Seattle will need additional production from its young players.

Center Dominique Malonga has become one of the team’s main offensive options, leading the Storm with 17.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Seattle Experimenting With Tall Lineup

The Storm have recently tested a larger lineup featuring multiple tall frontcourt players.

Head coach Sonia Raman started Dominique Malonga, Ezi Magbegor, and rookie Awa Fam together, creating a lineup with significant size and defensive potential.

While the group is still developing chemistry, Seattle believes the combination can create opportunities on both ends of the floor.

Key Factors to Watch
Toronto’s Remaining Scoring Options

With Mabrey and several other contributors unavailable, Toronto will need young players to take on larger roles and create consistent offense.

Seattle’s Offensive Execution

The Storm have shown defensive potential but must improve their scoring efficiency if they want to turn close games into victories.

Frontcourt Battle

With both teams relying heavily on their interior players, the performance of Malonga, Magbegor, and Toronto’s remaining bigs could influence the outcome.

Final Outlook

Both teams enter the matchup dealing with major roster challenges. Toronto’s injuries have significantly limited its rotation, while Seattle is searching for momentum after a difficult stretch.

The Storm have the advantage at home, but they will need stronger execution to take advantage of Toronto’s depleted lineup.
